Working with this Sweet Sour Dough Starter is fun and easy! The creations are endless and there isn't a seasoning that doesn't work with it. Get creative and have fun with it! YUM!
Ingredients
  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1½ cup warm water
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons potato flakes (only use the flakes)
  • This is your starter recipe. One you've made it, it stays in your refrigerator until you are planning a bake.
Instructions
  1. Mix ingredients in a large glass jar and set in a sunny or warm spot for at least 4 hours.
  2. A foam will form on top of the mixture, and you might hear a hissing noise from the lid of the jar.
  3. After the starter sits for at least 4 hours, pour off 1 cup of the mixture into another jar or container, and you now have two starters. One to keep and one to share.
  4. Refrigerate your starter for two days before you want to bake.
  5. My starter has gone two weeks in the refrigerator before adding to it for a bake. If you're not planning on baking, just feed it, set it on your countertop overnight and then return it to the refrigerator.
  6. When you are ready to bake, remove the starter and add the following ingredients:
  7. one cup warm water
  8. three-fourths cup of sugar
  9. three tablespoons of potato flakes
  10. Stir the ingredients and set overnight on your countertop or for at least eight hours.
  11. In the morning, you'll remove one cup of starter to mix the dough.
  12. Please go to my website sockbox10.com and search "Rosie's Rolls and Bread' for the bread recipe that uses this starter.
  13. ENJOY!
