An easy to make Red Wine Sangria with the ideal mix of brandy and wine topped with the perfect fruits. The presentation is beautiful and by all means, double the recipe; you won't regret it! ENJOY!
Ingredients
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lime, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1½ cups simple sugar
  • ¾ cups fresh orange juice
  • ½ cup lime juice
  • 1 (750- milliliter) bottle of dry red wine
  • 1 cup brandy
  • sliced fruit for garnish (optional)
Instructions
  1. I like to make the simple sugar in advance, so it is chilled or at least room temperature.
  2. To make simple sugar, boil equal parts of water and granulated sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Stir often.
  3. In a large pitcher or jar, combine sliced orange, lime, lemon and simple sugar.
  4. Press firmly with a wooden spoon or a muddler to mash the fruit and release the juices.
  5. Add the wine, brandy, orange juice and lime juice and stir for 15-20 seconds.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for 3 to 24 hours.
  7. Before serving, stir to combine and pour over ice and garnish.
  8. Pour over ice but don't add until right before serving. You don't want to dilute the sangria.
  9. I love making it in a large glass jar. The sliced fruit is colorful and very festive. Perfect for any party!
  10. The prep time does not include chilling or making the simple sugar in advance.
  11. ENJOY!
  12. This recipe has gone through a couple of adaptations that started with "Party Drinks" by A. J. Rathbun (Harvard Common Press)
